If these settings are off, you might briefly send traffic without the VPN during app startup, network changes, or specific connection types.
Also note that VPN protection is about what happens between your phone and the VPN server, and what network identity is presented to websites. It generally won’t make a website itself “more trustworthy,” remove tracking cookies, or prevent third parties from collecting data through other channels.

To verify what a VPN is doing for your own connection (without relying on marketing claims):
- Confirm VPN status: check the VPN icon/status in your phone’s interface and ensure the VPN connection is established.
- Test visibility changes: compare what public IP appears while VPN is on versus off (using a reputable “what’s my IP” website) and note whether it changes.
- Check app coverage: try a few apps (browser plus one other network-heavy app) while VPN is on, and see whether the behavior is consistent.
- Review app permissions and settings: look for options related to “always-on” behavior, local network access, and app inclusion/exclusion.
