A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a technology that creates a protected, encrypted connection between your device and a VPN server. - File privacy depends on more than the connection: If a file is uploaded to a third-party service, the service’s permissions and encryption settings (if any) also influence who can access it.
These limits don’t make VPNs useless; they clarify what they do and don’t protect.

You can validate your understanding by doing a few non-invasive checks:
- Confirm the VPN is enabled and connected in your client app before handling sensitive uploads/downloads.
- Observe whether traffic changes as expected by checking your network connection details (for example, whether your traffic appears to originate from the VPN server side as reported by your client or by network tools you already trust).
- Review file-sharing controls in the apps you use (cloud storage sharing settings, link permissions, and account security).
- Harden your device and accounts: keep the OS updated, use strong credentials, enable multi-factor authentication where available, and avoid opening unknown attachments.
