Install a VPN extension in Chrome

  2. Search for the VPN extension you want.
  3. Select the correct listing, then click “Add to Chrome.”
  4. Review requested permissions before installing. If permissions look unrelated to privacy or VPN functionality, that’s a reason to reconsider.

Use the extension for browsing

VPN extensions can differ in how much traffic they protect. A few common limitations to look for:

  • Scope: Coverage may be limited to browser traffic handled by the extension.
  • Protocols and connections: Some extensions may not support every use case (for example, certain streaming players or special browser traffic patterns).
  • Permissions: Legitimate extensions request permissions, but the requests should be understandable and relevant.

Practical checks:

  • Confirm the extension indicator changes when you toggle it on/off.
  • If nothing seems to change, try restarting the tab or re-loading pages.
  • Review the extension’s settings and any “help/about” page for what is covered.

Finally, accept uncertainty where documentation is unclear: if an extension doesn’t explain its scope and behavior, you can’t reliably assume it protects everything you do in Chrome.
