Definition: what “total online anonymity” can mean

Region locks only control where a service thinks you’re allowed to access from. They do not automatically create or remove privacy risks. If you want maximum privacy while dealing with region restrictions, think in terms of reducing identifiable signals—not achieving an absolute, guaranteed state.

“Total online anonymity” is a stronger goal than most practical setups can provide. Even when location hints are reduced, other information such as accounts, device identifiers, and browsing patterns can still connect activity to you.

A simple model: where privacy leaks usually come from

You can treat privacy exposure as coming from three broad areas:

  1. Network-level signals: your apparent network path and sometimes the apparent country/region.

Important limits: even if the service no longer sees your original region, that does not mean you are unidentifiable overall.

Reduce application-level correlation (where “anonymity” often fails)
