- It doesn’t make you “anonymous” or remove all risk: If you reuse the same accounts, identifiers, or patterns across sessions, tracking can still be possible.

To judge whether a VPN is helping in your case, you can verify practical signals:
- Check that traffic is actually encrypted: Use your browser/security indicators (for example, whether the connection is protected to the extent expected) and confirm the VPN is enabled before browsing.
- Compare IP visibility: With the VPN on and off, check whether “whatismyip” style pages show a different public IP address. If the IP doesn’t change, the VPN may not be routing traffic as intended.
- Look for protection beyond the tunnel: Prefer end-to-end protections like HTTPS for websites and avoid entering credentials on suspicious pages, since a VPN doesn’t replace scam-resistant behavior.
