How an ad blocker and a VPN work together
Your personal information online can be exposed in multiple ways: by tracking scripts embedded in websites, by advertising and analytics systems, and by how your connection is routed over networks. An ad blocker and a VPN help with different layers.

VPN: strengths and limits
A VPN can help with:

Limitations to expect:
- A VPN does not inherently make you “unidentifiable” to a website you visit. When you connect to a site, the site can still use information available to it (such as account logins, browser behavior, and stored data).
- Not every application uses your browser’s network stack in the same way, so you may need to check whether the VPN covers all traffic you care about.
Combined approach
Using both can be beneficial: the ad blocker reduces tracking scripts, while the VPN protects the connection path to the VPN server. But the combined approach still has boundaries: you are reducing certain risks, not eliminating all forms of data collection.

Even with strong ad/script blocking, first-party features on a site may still collect information. To assess this:

- Determine whether the site uses only first-party requests or still loads third-party resources.
