How a VPN can help with blocked websites
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) helps your device create an encrypted connection to a VPN server. After that, your internet traffic appears to websites and services as if it is coming from the VPN server’s IP address rather than from your home or mobile network.

Practical checks you can run before assuming it’s blocked
If your goal is to understand what’s happening, focus on observable signals rather than assumptions.
- Confirm the VPN is connected: Many VPN apps show a connection state. If it’s not fully connected, the website may still be using your original network path.
- Check your visible IP address: Compare the IP address shown by a public “what is my IP” site before and after enabling the VPN. If it does not change, the VPN may not be routing traffic.
- Verify DNS behavior: If the site fails immediately with “can’t find” style errors, try ensuring name resolution is performed through the VPN rather than your regular resolver. If you don’t know how to verify this, repeat tests in a way that distinguishes DNS failure from HTTP failure.
- Determine whether it’s a VPN-only block: If other websites work while one specific site does not, the problem may be server-side detection or site-specific rules rather than your overall VPN setup.
- Test from another network (when possible): If access fails on both your mobile network and Wi‑Fi with the same VPN, the issue may be on the website/proxy-detection side. If it differs, the block may be network-path related.
These checks help you identify whether the restriction is being bypassed at the routing level, prevented by VPN detection, or triggered by DNS/network enforcement.
